10a Chandos Street
Lettsom House, Medical Society of London
Chandos Street, Westminster
London, October 2009
“By the mid-19th century London’s medical community congregated in the West End and Fleet Street was no longer a convenient rendezvous for Fellows of the Medical Society. Therefore, on amalgamation with the Westminster Medical Society in 1850, the Society moved to 32A George Street (now Saint George Street), Hanover Square, thence to 11 Chandos Street in March 1873. This early 19th century house belonging to the Earl of Gainsborough suited the Society admirably, and with the purchase of the freehold of numbers 10A to 12 Chandos Street in 1928, the Medical Society of London was entrenched at the heart of the medical fraternity.” (The Medical Society of London, Postgraduate Medical Journal)
