Midtown Comics Times Square
W 40th Street
New York, September 2007
“Midtown Comics is a New York City comic book retailer with three shops in Manhattan and an e-commerce website. The largest comic book store in the United States, the company opened its first store in the Times Square area in 1997. Its second was opened on Lexington Avenue in 2004, and is known as the Grand Central store for its proximity to Grand Central Terminal. Its downtown store was opened on Fulton Street in the Financial District in November 2010, and its Astoria, Queens outlet store opened in March 2020. It also used to operate a boutique inside Manhattan's Times Square Toys R Us. The store is noted for appearances by celebrities known outside the comic book industry, for its friendly and energetic staff, and for being the most media-friendly comic store in the United States. It was named by The Village Voice in 2012 as the Best Comic Book Store in New York, and has been hailed by CBR.com as ‘the industry's leading retailer of comic books, graphic novels and manga.’ On July 13, 2012, the National Geographic Channel premiered Comic Store Heroes, a reality television program set at Midtown Comics. In 2013, it was ranked number 44 on Bleeding Cool magazine's Top 100 Power List of Comic Books, due to its geographic proximity to the then-headquarters of ‘Big Two’ of the American comic book publishing industry, Marvel Comics and DC Comics, and the relationship between the store and industry professionals.” (Midtown Comics, Wikipedia)

Llibreria Pròleg
Llibreria Pròleg (Bookstore)
Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt
Barcelona, March 2017
“The Llibreria Pròleg bookshop is Barcelona's epicenter of feminism and the struggle for equal rights and opportunities for women in the city. Since 2009 it has occupied this location in Carrer Sant Pere Més Alt. Pròleg is much more than a bookstore with books about women and by women. Open and critical in its approach, here we can find books for children and young people that are free of sexist criteria, an exhaustive essay section, and even interesting workshops and collective activities.” (Llibreria Pròleg, Visit Barcelona)

Shakespeare and Company
Rue de la Bûcherie
Quartier de la Sorbonne, 5th arrondissement
Paris, July 2002
“Shakespeare and Company is an English-language bookstore opened in 1951 by George Whitman, located on Paris's Left Bank. The store was named after Sylvia Beach's bookstore of the same name founded in 1919 on the Left Bank, which closed in 1941. Whitman adopted the ‘Shakespeare and Company’ name for his store in 1964. The bookstore is situated at 37 rue de la Bûcherie, in the 5th arrondissement. Opened in 1951 by American George Whitman, it was originally called "Le Mistral", but was renamed to "Shakespeare and Company" in 1964 in tribute to Sylvia Beach's store and on the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth. Today, it continues to serve as a purveyor of new and second-hand books, as an antiquarian bookseller, and as a free reading library open to the public. Additionally, the shop houses aspiring writers and artists in exchange for helping out around the bookstore. Since the shop opened in 1951, more than 30,000 people have slept in the beds found tucked between bookshelves. The shop's motto, ‘Be Not Inhospitable to Strangers Lest They Be Angels in Disguise’, is written above the entrance to the reading library.” (Shakespeare and Company, Wikipedia)
