“Benalmádena Stupa is a stupa in Benalmádena, Málaga in the Andalusian region of southern Spain, overlooking Costa del Sol. It is 33 m (108 ft) high and is the tallest stupa in Europe. It was inaugurated on 5 October 2003, and was the final project of Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche. In Buddhism, a stupa is a monument which represents peace, prosperity and harmony, as well as being a place for meditation. Benalmádena Stupa (Chan Chub Chorten in Tibetan) symbolizes Buddha's enlightenment, the realisation of the nature of the mind, and is one of the eight different forms that stupas are built. Whereas stupas are typically sealed structures, the Benalmádena Stupa is unusual as there is a 100 square metre meditation room and a room that can be used for exhibitions about Tibetan Buddhism and Himalayan culture inside the structure. “Ideal for families with young children who want a gentler up-close-with-nature experience, the Butterfly Park has over 1500 of the colourful little winged insects. The park is inside a Thai temple-style building; the blue tiles were actually made in Thailand. The butterflies mate and lay eggs in the park, so you can see all stages of reproduction including caterpillars and chrysalis, as well as new butterflies hatching in cages. Other animals include a tortoise, a wallaby and a Komodo dragon. Providing a stunning backdrop, and home, for the butterflies are the tropical plants: ornamental ones, which are exotic-looking and brightly coloured; flowering plants, whose nectar the insects feed on; and host plants, which caterpillars feed on. “The ‘Niña de Benalmádena’ (Girl of Benalmádena), a bronze sculpture, a unique symbol and icon of the town of Benalmádena (Málaga), is part of the fountain that stands in the Plaza de España. This work, by the sculptor Jaime Pimentel, was made at the request of the mayor at that time, Mr. Enrique Bolín Pérez-Argemí. The sculpture came to predict the resurgence of the town 's economy and its connection with tourism and more international culture. “Castillo de Colomares is a monument, in the form of a castle, dedicated to the life and adventures of Christopher Columbus. It was built near Benalmádena in Spain, between 1987 and 1994. Covering an area of 1,500 meters, it is the largest monument in the world to the explorer, but also contains the smallest church in the world, covering an area of just 1.96 square meters. In 1987, Dr. D. Esteban Martín Martín began this singular work in an improvised way and with the help of two masons he created Colomares in seven years of artisanal work using brick, stone and cement. Thanks to his knowledge of art, history and architecture, Dr. Martín was able to mold this work at his whim, turning it into a ‘unicum’ due to the stony way of narrating the Discovery of America.” (Castillo de Colomares, Wikipedia)

“An Arab-style construction, with red plaster outside and decorated with tiles and bas-relief following the exquisite Nasrid tradition. The surrounding area has gardens with several Moorish-inspired fountains, which make the gardens look especially beautiful. It was built in 1927, as part of a project that aimed to build a country villa for a wealthy family of the time. In 1980 the Benalmádena Town Council bought it to turn it into a cultural asset for the town, and it still is today, with exhibitions, concerts, conferences, etc. An interesting fact is that it is the public building where the largest amount of civil weddings is held in the province of Málaga.” (Castillo de El-Bil-Bil, Andalucia.org)
