There is something more than a little threatening about these Carabinieri! Look like they belong in one of those futuristic movies!

Hey wait, maybe the future is here! Omigod!

My impression of the carabinieri was that they are relatively small built, like the cops in the Philippines. Relative to the BIG guys in North America, that is... So it makes sense to outfit them in overbearing outfits.

Everything is big in America and smaller anywhere else! ;-) I think the carabinieri are the most elegant cops of Europe...

@ Francisca - My friend Paolo, who is a Carabiniere, is six foot three inches.
Speaking obviously of averages, people were, and still are, slightly taller in center-north Italy than in center-south, but the gap is closing with the new generations.

They look pretty snazzy, black with red stripe.

@VP - yes, this was my observation too, that people in Italy were generally taller in the north. That seems to be true everywhere, oddly... southern Chinese are MUCH smaller on average than their northern cousins. Don't ask me why these guys look small to me on those bikes; maybe because the bikes are so huge. I've never seen all of you, but you don't look short in your profile pic! :-D
