Cattedrale ex Macello
Cattedrale ex Macello
Via Cornaro
Padua, May 2025
“This exemplary industrial archaeology complex was inaugurated in 1908, designed by engineer Alessandro Peretti, to replace Jappelli's slaughterhouse, built in 1821 and converted into an Art Institute. The entire complex expanded over an area of approximately 17,000 square meters. The main entrance consisted of a colonnaded portico, and inside, all the buildings were arranged along a central axis. This unique and innovative layout was modeled after the Offenbach slaughterhouse in Germany. The original function of the slaughterhouse was suspended in the early 1970s and in 1984 the cattle slaughterhouse, which is the main room of the complex, was restored in accordance with the original structure and used as an exhibition space. It is also called ‘cathedral’ due to its characteristic shape with three ‘naves’.” (Cattedrale ex Macello, Comune di Padova)
