Die Gebrüder Jakob

Die Gebrüder Jakob (The Jakob brothers) by Albrecht Klink, Alte Jakobstraße, Kreuzberg, Berlin

“Die Gebrüder Jakob” (The Jakob brothers) by Albrecht Klink, 2004

“Who was Jacob? Not much is known about the namesake of the street. Jacob presumably owned a property on this street, perhaps even the street itself, which was initially simply called Jacob's Street, later (1778) renamed Old Jacob Street. Whether there was also a ‘New Jacob’, as the extension of the street is called today, remains open to the imagination, whose freedom the sculptor has taken advantage of: That is why there are now two Jacobs, a pair of brothers who seem to get along well and who stand slyly smiling above things and yet in the midst of life.” (Die Gebrüder Jakob, Bildhauerei in Berlin)
