“Saint George and the Dragon” by Bernt Notke
(Cast of the original wooden statue in Storkyrkan, Gamla Stan, Stockholm)
St. Catherine's Church
Lübeck, May 2003
Ach... I didn't go in. It was closed as were all the churches when I stopped in Lübeck for a few hours on the drive back to France from the isle of Rügen... Does the date refer to the original or the copy?
Is there anywhere in Europe you have not been? What a glorious statue! Such energy and emotion! Just a great photograph!
ReplyDeleteA "knight" in shining armour, even the horse is wearing it.
ReplyDeleteGreat old statue.
I take pictures of St.George slaying the dragon wherever I can find them. Such a fascinating subject.
Very interesting. It's quite rare to see a statue of St George & dragon.
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks impressive! I like this photo!
