“Igor Mitoraj’s Centauro shows the great mythological beast of the centaur, which is depicted partially incomplete but ready for battle. A truly European artist, Mitoraj was born in East Germany of Polish parents and initially studied classical painting in Cracow before moving to Paris in 1968. He began experimenting with sculpture following a visit to South America and then embarked on a series of trips to Greece to study classical sculpture.” (
