“Wenn es sich um Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit handelt, gibt es nicht die Unterscheidung zwischen kleinen und großen Problemen”
(When it comes to truth and justice, there is no distinction between small and great problems)
Albert Einstein
This quote comes from an unfinished manuscript, the last draft of a speech for the 7th anniversary of the independence of Israel. Albert Einstein died on April 18, 1955.“I speak to you tonight as an American citizen and also as a Jew and as a human being who has always striven to consider matters objectively. What I am trying to do is simply to serve truth and justice with my modest strength. You may think that the conflict between Israel and Egypt is a small and unimportant problem. We have more important concerns you might say. That is not the case. When it comes to truth and justice there is no difference between small and great problems. Whosoever fails to take small matters seriously in a spirit of truth, cannot be trusted in greater affairs...”
We need this kind of words, we need to remember these things, we need to think about them. I would love to have a quote on my building.
ReplyDeleteI wish Einstein had lived to finish this speech.
ReplyDeleteThe writing on the wall, on the German Ministry of Justice! Good for them!
I am somehow reminded of Psalm 85:10:
"Mercy and truth have met each other: justice and peace have kissed."
