Gargoyle

We have same charm at the end roof of typical Japanese-style houses or old castles. "Oni-gawara", Damon faced tile roof is their families' charms to prevent from lots of evils.
@ Jacob: the wrath of God should you not follow him. Churches, chapels, cathedrals in a Roman Catholic country like France are full of scary faces for just that reason. Reminding people who couldn't read or write that there could be consequences...
Fierce looking creature! Again, I wonder why such forboding critters were used as drains...why not use rabbits or chickens or deer?
ReplyDeleteAh, they were to ward off the evil spirits, too! Magic!
@ Jacob, good question. It's funny, I never noticed the gargoyles of Sacre-Coeur with everything else going on there.

ReplyDeleteI don't like gargoyles. They give me the creeps. Nice shot, though.
