The Terrine fountain by Giacomo della Porta “Ama Dio e non fallire, fa del bene e lassa dire” (Love God and do not fail, do good deeds and let others talk) Piazza della Chiesa Nuova, Rome, May 2011

“There was a grove in Kensington Gardens
devoted to the rooks; it contained some
seven hundred trees forming a piece of
wild nature, a matter of delight and
astonishment to those who walked among
them and listened to the endless cawing
that blotted out the city's noise.”
From “London: The Biography” by Peter Ackroyd,
page 417. In the book the author sadly concludes:
“But the trees were torn down in 1880.
The rooks have never returned.”
